Parent Education

Parent education services can be a good choice for families that need help finding the best ways to support their child.  This may include learning more about a specific disability, general child development, parenting skills, and/or behavior.  This may also include learning strategies and interventions that will help the child be more successful at school and at home, or ways to be a better advocate for your child’s needs at school.

Consultation and Advocacy

Consultation and advocacy services may be helpful for parents who are struggling with ensuring that their child gets the proper supports at school or in the community.  This may include a simple second opinion on a psychoeducational evaluation report or on the school's proposed intervention and services plans.  It may also include ongoing services to support parents in understanding their child's rights and what might constitute appropriate instruction/intervention/services in a school or community setting for their child.  Additionally, attendance at school or other agency meetings to assist parents in advocating for their child's needs is an option.  These services are often selected when parents are feeling unsure about the appropriateness of their child's current supports or are uncomfortable attending school or agency meetings alone.
